Halle Knit Jacket at Doncaster.comWant to make a dressed up statement but sequins aren’t your thing?  Take a look at filmy layers and netting in neutral taupes, bodytones and blacks.  In line with this day-to-evening trend, a toille top, shoes or handbag or just as much at home with a pair of jeans, harem pants, tuxedo pants or a fluted hem skirt.

Keep it simple is the trick for day to evening.  Most toille is like a piece of jewelry so you will to avoid “overdoing” it.  As you go into the evening, avoid bracelets or necklaces that might catch on the fabric.  If you must bling, consider some great earrings or shoes.

There are some great vintage pieces to be had out there.  Doncaster has two offerings that I believe are treasure.  The first is a twinset with a stretch rayon cami under the Halle Knit Jacket In Stretch Rayon With Netting Overlay.  The jacket has Elbow length sleeves, and couture details such as a covered snap closure at the neckline, all-over double layered netting, shirred netting detail at neckline and hem, rib detail at the neckline and hem, and has a great fit thanks to a fully fashioned, rounded hem.  And for those times when you want to show off your arms, the white Charlize Knit Tank In Stretch Rayon has all-over double layered netting, with shirred netting detail at neckline.

Channing Taffeta Trench coat at Doncaster.comTrench coats never go far from “In Style.” And why should they?  They are the “It” accessory to most any outfit.  They can be worn by most any body type.  A good trench coat, can be worn from day into evening and works with everything from jeans to cocktail dress.  Or nothing at all…  Some of my clients wear the trench as the new jacket in corporate environments.  And in temperate climates like ours in Northern California, a good trench coat is very practical 10 months out of the year.

As far as trench coat styling, there is always the classic trench that is timeless.  However, there are also versions of the trench coat for the trendier dressier that offer a wide variety of colors, fabrics and finish details. Because the trench coat is so practical and universal, it is a piece that you want to invest in.  This is the piece that you spend as much as you can afford to get the very best quality, style and construction.

Doncaster has three trench coats this season.  They will meet the needs of every budget, wardrobe, occasion, color requirement and style.

Today was one of those beautiful Northern California days just before the big winter storm. I took advantage of the glorious day by having lunch and a little shopping with one of my best friends. Once we talked about our families and what we had been up to recently, the conversation turned to style. We talked a lot about the trends for Spring and how to wear them. And the importance of having a basic style that we update with just the right amount of the latest trend so that we look updated and relevant without crossing the line into fashion victim.

For example, how to wear draping and pleating without looking like a toga. When worn correctly, pleats and draping have the magical ability to conceal and elongate. On a collar, they frame the face beautifully. A horizontal or assymetrical wrap works wonders to conceal the hips or tummy. Strategically placed vertical pleats add height to the petite frame. Pleats and draping can update a classic look and soften a very structured business look.

But like all good things, pleats and draping have their limits. If pleats are drapes are excessive or used to drape over poor garment construction, the outfit can quickly take on the look of a bedsheet. This beautiful jacket, cardigan and blouse, all from Doncaster, have the magic balance of classic lines with expert design and construction to creat the look of feminine sophistication.

Sydney Jacket at Doncaster.comThe last time that the oversized boxy jacket with the oversized shoulder pads aka the “Boyfriend Jacket” was around, I was in college.  At the time, I wore this trend to the extreme.  My favorite was a real tuxedo jacket that my dad had tossed to the side when it no longer fit with the sleeves pushed up, crisp white shirt, jeans and flat shoes.  Its no secret that I am not in college anymore and I would feel very silly trying to go back to that.  Actually, it would break one of my hard and fast rules for style…never wear a trend twice!  But the boyfriend jacket is everywhere and I still LOVE them….so the age old question is how to wear the trend in a way that is relevant while being age appropriate?

Two of my favorite words…princess seams.  This jacket has them along with shoulder and waist darts and a slightly rounded hemline.  I CAN wear the look that is tailored to my body type thanks to this ingenious construction detail that takes down the “boxiness” just a notch.  It takes into consideration the silhouette of my body and allows me to follow the idea of the trend without looking like I raided the attic at my parents house!  This white boyfriend jacket from Doncaster will be in my closet and the closet of many of my clients this season.  It fits my life and my body now and every girl needs at least one great white go to jacket in her spring/summer closet!

Christine Jacket at Doncaster.com

“Biker Chic” was a big trend in the Fall which has carried over into the Spring lines of many designers such as Phillip Lim, Tommy Hilfiger and the accessories of Michael Kors and Lanvin.  Once again, how do we take a relevant look and apply it to the lives we lead?  I advise my clients to take an edgy trend such as hardware, grommets and zippers and you soften them.  Consider softer or more feminine colors, fabrics or cuts.

Which is exactly what Doncaster has done.  The first jacket with grommets is made of a supple leather and soft blue.  The snapdragon twinset is the ultimate “Breakfast at Tiffanys Meets Urban Chic 2010.”  But this techno jacket with the ruffles, pleating, and black details is in my opinion the absolute show stopper, unexpected while totally wearable wonder!
