Mari Smith and Laura Beth DeHority @ eWomen Network Conference

Just as a Little Black Dress is the essential element of any woman’s wardrobe, a social media strategy is the essential element of any corporate internet strategy.  Without it, design an amazing website and no one will know because no one can find it.

A few months back, Mari Smith was one of the trainers at the eWomen Network Conference in Dallas, Texas. After spending time in two sessions on Social Media with her, I knew that there was more for me to learn. And I must tell you that if this glamour girl needs to learn geek stuff, it might as well be from a diva with turquoise as the central color of her brand! So I signed up for what I thought was going to be a weekend Social Media bootcamp called Social Media Mastery Immersion.
This past weekend, I joined the experience remotely from my home in San Jose with high hopes. Well, I was not disappointed. If you are looking for a class that meets you where it finds you in the world of social media for business and offers the hands on resources to take you to the next level, I highly recommend this immersion.
There are two ways to take the class: one is onsite in San Diego and the other is by computer at your office wherever that may be. I participated remotely and learned more than enough to convince me that taking the class in San Diego live is an investment worth making in my business. I will be checking her schedule and booking my trip.
For reasons completely out of Mari’s control, the first few hours of the class were plagued with technical problems. What made it all work was that Mari took 100% ownership. She made sure that the experience was the best it could be under the circumstances and that she over delivered in getting the resources to us as quickly and conveniently as possible.
And because the format is an interactive experience, there was a great deal to be learned from other attendees and trainers who were there to hand hold us. I was struggling with one aspect of the Facebook mapping language called FBML (don’t even ask me what I think that acronym stands for!). I posted a note on our online chat room and in a short while, one of the panelists sent me a YouTube video that showed me step by step how to load this annoying little piece of code.
But the class was far more than just the nuts and bolts of social media. It dealt with the relationships, the business aspects and the spiritual side of what is holding us back in our businesses. It was far more of a learning experience than just about any other class I have taken.

The site alone is a treasure trove of information and a portal for social media marketing. And watch the GlamourByLBD Facebook and Twitter account for fun new changes in the coming months!
