Early in my professional career, blue was considered to be the “color of money.” Looking for a job? Wear a blue suit. Looking for a promotion? Or looking to close a big sale? Blue suit was the safe bet. It is a color that represents knowledge, power, integrity and seriousness–all attributes connected to success.
As the times have changed, so has the representation of blue. While is still symbolizes trust, loyalty and wisdom, there is more emphasis on the relation to the sky and sea. It is associated with calmness, tranquility and cleanliness.
From a clothing standpoint, navy blue is a slimming color like black, but has the added affect of being a more “trusting” color. It is also a little easier for certain palettes, such as those with spring coloring (blonde hair and brown or green eyes) to wear. It goes well with warm colors like red, orange and yellow. It also looks dramatic and elegant with white and ivory.
