Yesterday, I was working with other fabulous Doncaster consultants to set up our showroom for Fall. While we were working, we got on the topic of the wide range of pant styles available this season and the emphasis on finding the best fit for the individual body. How perfect, considering that pant fit is my topic for the week.
How do you like your pants to fit? Do you like them to fit close or do you prefer a little extra fabric? Do you find yourself between sizes? It is always advisable to size up to “fit the issue” and then have the pants altered. That being said, there are certain styles that will always work for you and others that never will. During this week, I am going to talk about the different body types and what pants fit them best.
The simplest model for pant fit that I have come upon is the H-O-A-X model. The “H” has a flat stomach and hips. The “O” has a round tummy. The “A” is more heavily weighted in the hips than the top. And the “X” is the hourglass with curves at top and bottom with a defined waist.
Today, I will share how I fit a customer with an “H” body type…. what works, what doesn’t and some recommendations for pants that will work.
A closer fit works well as do back pockets, yokes and stitching for accents. Pants with stretch can actually play up curves. What the “H” figure wants to avoid is pants that are too baggy or large as they overwhelm the body shape.
A great place to start is a “slim pant” which sits below the waist; has a zipper and slanted pockets in front and besom pockets with buttom tab closure at the back and back waist darts…all of which play up curves and make the waist look longer.
