Fall is a great time of year for social events!  On Saturday night, we are attending a Fall gala benefit for Innvision at Club Motor Sport:  From Innvision With Love.  It will be lots of fun to get all dressed up for each other and transport ourselves into the world of James Bond:  high roller casinos, beautiful cars and beautiful people impeccably dressed!  And of course…the food…

So what to wear to your gala event?

If you are wearing a favorite from your closet, shift the look from “back of closet” to “notched up vintage”.:

  • Be sure that it is expertly tailored
  • Match with a piece of chunky jewelry and high quality boots, sandals or stilettos

If you are looking for a new favorite, be smart about your purchase

  • Look for pieces that can be be worn many different ways with things that are already in your closet
  • Day to evening is the best bet for getting the most out of your investment
  • Pieces that look great through the seasons with a change of jacket or shoes is always good for an investment
  • Pieces that are well made look the best;  are less expensive to alter; and hold up to many wearings and cleanings.
  • The perfect LBD, smart prints like florals and nauticals can be worn many seasons

Nordstrom online is always a great place to shop for dresses!  Any questions?  Just Ask LBD.

Little Black Dress by Jax at eDressme.comeDressMe just announced a fabulous sitewide 15% off sale, so of course, that is where the LBD of the week is coming from.  I love this LBD by Jax because it is flattering, versatile and I LOVE the back!

Glamour and feminine is back and this dress, with its great style and wonderful collar just oozes of both!  The short dresses are cute but they don’t really work for most women over 35.  But that does not mean we want to look like an old lady either!  This dress is a perfect sophisticated LBD!

Cap sleeves are the great way to show “just enough” arm.  The cute thin belt cuts in just the right place to make the perfect accent and the rounded classic collar is beautiful now and years from now.  Wear it to work with a jacket.  Lose the jacket and add some bling for cocktails and dinner well into the evening.

Early in my professional career, blue was considered to be the “color of money.”  Looking for a job?  Wear a blue suit.  Looking for a promotion?  Or looking to close a big sale?  Blue suit was the safe bet.  It is a color that represents knowledge, power, integrity and seriousness–all attributes connected to success.

As the times have changed, so has the representation of blue.  While is still symbolizes trust, loyalty and wisdom, there is more emphasis on the relation to the sky and sea.  It is associated with calmness, tranquility and cleanliness.

From a clothing standpoint, navy blue is a slimming color like black, but has the added affect of being a more “trusting” color.  It is also a little easier for certain palettes, such as those with spring coloring (blonde hair and brown or green eyes) to wear.  It goes well with warm colors like red, orange and yellow.  It also looks dramatic and elegant with white and ivory.

Red Dresses at edressme.comOver this long weekend, we will take a break to celebrate America.  Many of us will attend barbecues, gather with friends, attend baseball games and wear a lot of red, white and blue.  Our family is usually either at a baseball game or the beach on the 4th but this year will be a little different.  We will be celebrating our friend, Hal’s joy as he makes his Bar Mitzvah, followed by a traditional 4th of July feast.  On Sunday, we will celebrate my son’s 13th birthday.  How did I become the mother of a teenager?

In honor of these traditions, I thought I would digress from the LBD and share a little about the primary colors red, white and blue.  Worn together, we think of the 4th of July and Memorial Day.  But separately, these primary colors stand distinctively on their own.

Red is a primary color with a broad spectrum.  Ranging from a true red to lighter variations such as pink; rust red with a mixture of orange and brown; and coral.  Most women can wear some form of red but rarely can a woman wear all of the shades successfully.  Be sure to try on red in a well lighted room to be sure that it is the right hue for you.

Red is a color that exudes feelings of romance and daring.  According to Wikipedia, the color red exudes aggression, blood, courage, devils, energy, fire, guilt, hell, love, passion, stop, anger, hatred, pain, socialism, sacrifice, autumn, sin, violence, negativity, danger, warning, lust, communism, blushing, exit, friendship, honor, leadership, Valentine’s Day, Christmas, attraction, error, wrong way, conservatism (US) and good luck (China)

An interesting article from AP reports on a study that men find women who are dressed in red more attractive–often to a point of distraction.  So, ladies, if you are looking to impress, red might be the color for choose.
