It was a good night for the Oscars.
Kathryn Bigelow was looking fabulous and didn’t play small as the first woman to take the Best Director Oscar. Her movie, The Hurt Locker went home with six awards.
Sandra Bullock had to win. The dress was fabulous and she wore it well. There was some controversty over the color of her lipstick: I thought it was beautiful and dramatic.
Generally, I love the glamour and the architecture of the dresses on the Red Carpet. I loved that the women from Precious were there dressed exquisitely in the body they have and celebrated who they are. There was an important message there and I hope it was received. There were beautiful trains, miles of fabric, beautiful colors, calculated risks with prints that worked. I loved Tina Fey’s LBD–simple, elegant and the essence of Tina. I thought Kate Winslett and Meryl Streep both looked beautiful in an understated way that speaks to their presence. As always, I loved Demi Moore’s Versace dress and Penelope Cruz looked stunning in burgundy by Donna Karan.
There were a few I didn’t like. SJP looked like Barbra Streisand. Peace Out and try again… Charlize Theron brought in that lingerie as streetwear theme into her dress. Yes, I know…but I don’t have to like it! Zoe Saldana’s dress was beautiful on top but the bottom looked like a cross between Barney and Big Bird to emulate Carmen Miranda. Carey Mulligan from An Education looked like the attempt was Goth but it conveyed as Kitschy Craft project.
It will be fun to see the influence on the Main Street party goer.
Its only Tuesday and I’m already looking forward to this weekend. First of all, one of my favorite childhood stories, Alice in Wonderland is coming out in 3D and the Rotary Club of San Jose is hosting its annual gala. Now, if by some miracle, the Northern California winter rains can be replaced by sun it will be just perfect!
For the gala, I will be wearing a cream colored beaded treasure from Carmen Marc Valvo. But I could not resist showcasing these amazing Victorian Lace gowns. Just in time for the movie premiere of “Alice In Wonderland” on March 5th, eDressMe.com, is selling the Sue Wong for Walt Disney Signature collection of dresses, using antique lace and colors inspired by the movie’s characters: Alice, the Red Queen, the White Queen, the White Rabbit and the talking flower garden. This beautiful nude lace gown was inspired by the White Queen. The bodice is fitted through to just above the knee where the fishtail skirt flairs out. The Victorian lace has beaded accents throughout with additional detailing at the hem line. The dress has a high back and thick straps so certain bras can be worn. This dress is a great formal gown or wedding dress.
Its going to be a standout Spring in fashion. Taking what has always been and notching it up to what is whimsical.

You would think I’d know better. I’m racing around the house on Friday evening getting ready to go out. I quickly throw on my favorite black sweater and tank top only to cover both in those famous white skid marks. Back to the closet for Plan B.
So, what to do? The tank is a synthetic blend heavy in spandex and the sweater is also a blend, but primarily viscose. The top is really covered while the sweater just has a small mark.
One look at the top and I just shake my head and go for the canister of white vinegar. I try to douse the spots and then just drop the entire top into a salad bowl and cover the top in vinegar. After soaking it for about an hour, the stains are gone. I handwash the top to get the vinegar smell out and the top is good as new.
The sweater is much easier. I get a pantyhose footie and rub the spot to see if it will come out. Most of it does but there is still a little bit left. So I put some of the vinegar on the footie and rub in just where the spot remains. The rest of the spot comes out immediately. So I just rinse the affected area with a little cold water to get rid of the vinegar residue and lay the sweater out to dry.
Mission accomplished. Pantyhose and vinegar. What do you do if you are out and discover the dreaded white stain? Go into the bathroom and try rubbing the stain against another part of the garment…preferably the inside fabric as this will often work to get most or all of the spot out.

However, like black, tan is not for everyone. It is a washout for many. There are a few tricks with accessories, cut and texture that could make it work for you.
