There are so many cute shorts this summer. Some of them will look best on a twenty-something. There are also a lot of cargo shorts and capris that most of us should avoid. Why? Because they add weight to our legs and by cutting our legs off at an unfortunate place, they make our legs look shorter.
For women over the age of 35, I am a big believer in Bermuda shorts that fall just at or above the knee. They are attractive and practical. If your hips or thighs are a challenge area, then I recommend a dark color such as black, navy or dark brown. Then you can wear a white, brightly colored or patterned shirt to provide a counter balance and give the body proportion.
Bermuda shorts can be dressed up or dressed down with accessories and tops to be worn just about anywhere during the summer. I love these extended tab shorts from New York and Company. With the extended tab and lower waist, they help to avoid the stomach “challenge areas” And with the pockets to the side, they help to deaccentuate the hips. My only note is that if the hip area is a challenge for you, you should avoid pockets altogther.
